Kids Clothes Week Day 3 - Trim

Day three of the Kids Clothes Week Challenge. I decided to do a little less sewing today and focus on the trim. It is shocking how a little ribbon can change the look of a skirt. Here is a lacy yellow tea party skirt for my soon to be 8 year old. The pocket! I know right.
And an rainbow heart skirt for my 5 year old (notice how I could not go a day with out patching something?)

I'm thinking of embroidering on some green stems to turn make them flower hearts, but I'm already thinking about tomorrow's projects so that will have to wait.

Here is the real reason I get so excited about trim. Discount fabric stores. There is a local store that sells fabric by the pound. It is mostly old, yucky fabric but it is lined with ribbons, lace, zippers and elastic galore. This whole wall is just lace. The lace on the yellow skirt cost 15 cents a yard.

Here are some of the boxes of lace collars, appliques and pockets. Mine was a whopping 25 cents. So for .55 I turned a basic yellow skirt into a fancy, pretty one. How could I not be excited.

Then there is the ribbon. I just snapped a picture of the polka dots because, well... I felt a little creepy walking around snapping photos but trust me there is a wall of ribbon. Grosgrain, velvet, satin... ribbon I don't even know the names for.

And these appliques... well they must be vintage because people just don't make stuff like this anymore. Are there discount fabric stores where you live?

Great idea to use lace on the lazy days skirt. It is so sweet.

We have a few discount fabric stores near me but they are very small.

I have a weekly Thursday blog party especially for people to share things they've made to be worn. Stop by if you'd like!
