First Hike

Jeff and I took the girls out for their first Colorado hike today.

The trail head is close to us and the views from this trail are spectacular.  It was also easy enough that our 7 year old completed it with out much complaining.

In addition to the birds, butterflies and beautiful flowers we also came across some pretty exciting wildlife.  Ava discovered a rattlesnake along the path.  I'm not sure what it is about that girl and snakes.

We spotted a small herd of deer.  The five of them perked up their ears as we got closer.  They watched us.  We watched them.  Then we were on our way and the deer went back to eating grass.

We made it to the edge of the cliffs and the view of the city did not disappoint.

Unfortunately the air was hazy due to a wildfire burning in High Park north of Denver.  Our thoughts were with the families who have lost their homes in the fire and the firefighters working to get it under control.

I'm sure that todays hike will be the first of many.
