Up and Running

Yesterday my husband came home with a new computer and changed my life. I can zip from page to page, it is amazing. Now I just need to control myself and focus or I'll spend the rest of my summer online.

Due to my lack of posts I'll quickly update what we've been up to recently.
  • Watching the Tour de France. This could be one of my favorite times of the year. Every night after dinner we sit on the couch and watch hours of cycling. The girls are interested enough to know who the big names are but they sort of come and go. I knit and watch. Jeff is in charge of fast forwarding commercials. Don't get me started on my love of DVR.

  • I'm now halfway through knitting my second sweater. This one is for Ava. I spent a good chunk of last night scrolling through Ravelry pages looking for my next project. There are a few contenders for a sweater for me. One of the hardest parts of knitting is finishing a current project before jumping to the next.
  • I've continued to try new sewing patterns but after several failed attempts at shirts I think I'll stick to skirts. I'd say I've got those down (pictures to come).

Sweater Success

I knit my first little sweater over fourth of July weekend. Although it was relatively simple I could not have done it without guidance from my mom. Having someone to show you what a yo (yarn over) is is so much nicer than looking it up in a book. Plus I love when experienced knitters help us newbies, especially mothers teaching daughters. One day when Erin grows up she may remember this sweater I made for her and want to make one herself. I'd love to teach her how. Sorry for the poor picture quality. She was not in the picture taking mood and I had to snap a quick shot.

Busy Sewing

Our computer has been slooooow recently and has kept me from e-mailing, uploading/organizing pictures, and blogging. While not in front of the computer I've been busy sewing. I have experimented with different types of fabrics and new patterns. Most of these have resulted in lessons learned instead of wearable clothes, but I feel like I'm making progress.

I don't have pictures of these "oops" garments, I'll blame it on the uploading instead of me not wanting to pose in my mistakes.
What I can show is a pincushion I made a few weeks ago. It is not quite square, which is why I don't quilt, but it works. I love the big wooden button I got as a extra from an Anthropologie sweater. It make me so happy when I use it and it has been used a lot recently. Here is a link to the free pattern I made it from.
Despite the slooooooow computer I did a little shopping online this week. I bought a few pairs of shoes for my return to work in a few weeks. How did I not know about Zappos? Best shopping experience ever! I did not have to leave my house and they graciously upgraded my shipping to priority at no charge. My new shoes arrived less than 24 hours after I ordered them.

Lets hope online shopping is not my next obsession.

Happy 4th

We spent the 4th of July weekend with family at my parents cabin in the White Mountains. I love weekends with my family. There is always a lot of wrestling with the uncles, fishing with Papa, reading with Nana, walking the dogs, arts and crafts, movies, coffee and lets not forget the food.
