Happy Halloween

We had a great Halloween this year. The girls wanted to be a T-Rex and a peacock. I opted for more feathers and a glue gun instead of hand stitching Erin's costume. I think it came out great and more importantly she was happy with it. Ava wanted to be a dinosaur but not the easy stegosaurus with spikes kind. I had to add teeth as a last minute touch so people would not confuse her with a turtle. The neighborhood was more crowded than I can ever remember. We rounded the block, visited a spooky house and then came home to pass out candy. It was a fun night.

Time to Shop

Thank you so much Angry Chicken for posting a link to Polyvore. I could spend hours there.

Where Did October Go?

This month was a blur. What happened to that easy transition into fall? I did manage to capture a few small moments along the way.

Pet sitting.

Two new skirts on their way to pre-k and 2nd grade.

A weekend full of tears, laughter, hugs and wine.

"Mom I know that the brontosaurus use to stand on it's hind legs to reach leaves but I think it was also to attract the females".

"Mom I dressed up my fingers for Halloween".

Read for the Record

Today is Jumpstart's Read for the Record. People all over the world will be reading the 40 year old classic, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The book is so pretty I just want to hang it on my wall. And the food... well who cannot relate to that super stuffed feeling. Now I won't give away the ending but it is one of natures greatest miracles.
I will be reading this story to all the students at my elementary school today. The wonderful people from Pearson Publishing have sent books for all the teachers. My sister-in-law happens to be one of those wonderful people and last weekend she hand delivered another box with even more books. There is nothing that excites a teacher more than a box full of books. (Notice yet another picture of my shadow's arm).
I happen to like to like the picture below because today also happens to mark my 6 month anniversary for becoming a vegetarian.

Now lets go break that world record!

Black Apple Pins

I just love getting packages in the mail. The other day I ordered a set of pins from The Black Apple. I have wanted to order something from her Etsy shop for the longest time and these little paper dolls were just too perfect. (Erin found her favorite)

I just love Etsy. I love the packaging and the little details. You can tell the items are made with love and it feels like such a gift. I'm not sure where these pins will end up. I think I'll make myself a fabric basket and use these to decorate it. No work next week so my plan is to get housework out of the way so I can sew, sew, sew.

Busy Bag

A dear friend of mine is going through the unimaginable. Her family has been seeking treatment for their nine month old daughter who appears to have multiple developmental delays. Days after the worst possible diagnosis for her daughter my friend discovered she has breast cancer. I have been in a daze since hearing of this news. I did the only thing I knew how to do, distract myself by crafting. The result is this 'busy bag' for their three year old son.

I used my new favorite pattern by Maya Made and filled it with goodies. There are books, crayons, balls and stickers to entertain Trevor while new faces come and go. There are also rattles and soft toys for his baby sister too.

It is hard when you can't make things better. Most of all I want my friend to know she is loved and if this fills an hour or two then I feel like I have helped a little.
