Ava's First Communion

Ava celebrated her First Communion yesterday. It was a beautiful day filled with family from beginning to end. Grandparents, Godparents, uncles, aunts and cousins all came in honor of her special day.

The occasion called for a special dress. I made her a white eyelet shift dress that we belted with a satin sash (Simplicity 4927). At one point the shoulders had ribbons too but they ended up on the floor somewhere before lunch. I though she looked so sweet and pretty. I much prefer this look to the miniature wedding gowns with diamond tiaras and updos. I wish I got a better picture of her but I was really swept up in enjoying the moment and not concerned about stressing over a perfect picture.

After mass we invited people over for sandwiches from Sausage Deli, a local favorite, and cake. There were also a few upcoming birthdays who got a candle too. Later in the afternoon we took a walk to the park so the kids could run around then came home and hung out some more. I think this may have been the first time that the six cousins (on my side of the family) have been together. My brother's baby is just 5 months old but at the rate he's growing he'll be keeping up with the big kids in no time. I'm not sure who was more tired at the end of the day, the kids or the adults, but by 8:30 they were headed home and the house was quiet.

That dress is perfect for a First Communion--the store bought ones are so frilly.

She looks darling, and I agree, the dress is perfect. Sounds like a perfect day.
